FREEPORT, MAINE

the wonderful gallery/FINE ART will fling open its doors at noon on Saturday, June 6, at 152 Main Street in Freeport, Maine. Located in a beautifully restored 200-year-old house, just steps from the luxurious Harraseeket Inn and directly across from Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers, the new gallery will dramatically enliven and energize Freeport's art scene. The gallery will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and from 2 until 9 pm on Fridays, as well as by appointment.

The opening of this new art venue will introduce the dozen talented artists who will be represented by the wonderful gallery/FINE ART over the coming year, each of whom will eventually have a solo exhibition. To start things off, a one-woman exhibition of local painter Catherine Breer's acrylic paintings of the Maine coast will run from June 6 through July 15.

Breer's cheerful land-and-seascapes have made her a local favorite for many years. In a recent article about her work in the Maine Sunday Telegram (Audience, Sunday, May 10, 2009), art critic Bob Keyes wrote: “Catherine Breer's paintings speak of Maine. Rich in color and full of light, they evoke a special sense of place.”

Many of the artists represented by the wonderful gallery/FINE ART live and work in Maine, while others are from New York City, Boston, and Racine, Wisconsin. They vary widely in style, age, and theme; the common denominator is that all of their work is wonderful! They are: Michael Costello (pastels, oils; Maine seacoast); Janice L. Moore (landscapes, oils); Maureen O' Connor (oils, fantasy); Paul Pedulla (acrylics, rural landscapes); Bruce Shields (oils, fantasy); Ted Smith (watercolors, Maine coast); Mitchell Fernie (hand painted wooden signs, maps); Heidi Makris (collage, florals); Lauren Ostis (hand painted lampshades, wall hangings); Diane Smook (color photographs, florals); Doug Wood (black & white photographs, Maine seacoast)
